Lifelong Learning
The last fifty years has been a period of constant scientific and technological innovation and change which has a profound effect on learning needs. Learning can no longer be divided into a place and time to acquire knowledge (school) and a place and time to apply knowledge (the workplace).
One of the reasons why lifelong education has become so important is the acceleration of scientific technological progress. Despite the increased duration of primary, secondary and university education, the knowledge acquired here is not usually sufficient for a professional career spanning three or four decades.
