Online Renewal FAQs

These FAQs should answer any questions you might have about Online Renewal. For general renewal enquiries, please go to www.geolsoc.org.uk/renewals.

Where can I renew my Fellowship online?

Once logged in, you can access online Fellowship renewal via the Fellows Area tab in the My GSL area. If you have forgotten your login details, please email your name and membership number to membership@geolsoc.org.uk.


What is paper free billing?

If you select to receive paper free billing you will no longer receive an invoice by post, you will receive an annual electronic notification which will be sent via email to the email address you have saved in the Fellows Area.


I moved overseas prior to September 2009, do I still need to tick the overseas check box?

As long as you have already notified the Fellowship department, please tick the overseas checkbox to continue with your renewal as the overseas rate will already have been applied.


Can I pay by Maestro?

We do not currently accept online payment by Maestro, you can either pay by Direct Debit or use an alternative credit or debit card.


Will I get a receipt?

If you pay by card, a receipt will be sent to you via email. To obtain a receipt for Direct Debit payments, please email lucy.willis@geolsoc.org.uk.


Why is there now a £10 supplement to receive my journal(s) in print and online?

Journals are now online only by default, but there is an option to continue receipt of print copies on payment of a surcharge of £10. The Society is adopting an environmentally sensitive approach to journal circulation in line with other publishers and is moving towards 'online as standard'. Fellows who still wish to receive a print copy should contribute part of the cost towards doing so. The anticipated savings in costs by moving to online-only will enable the Society to keep membership subscriptions unchanged for the overwhelming majority of Fellows in 2010.


If I select to receive my journal(s) as online only now, can I change this to print and online at a later date?

If you change from online only to print and online after 1 January 2010, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide you with back issues. A supplement of £10 per journal will apply.


I added my renewal to the shopping basket and continued shopping in the bookshop but my purchases from the bookshop are not appearing in the shopping basket.

Please contact membership@geolsoc.org.uk if items in the shopping basket are being displayed incorrectly.


I have completed my Fellowship renewal, when will I receive my membership card?

You can view and print off your membership card from the Fellows Area. This may be exchanged for a plastic membership card at your next visit to Burlington House.


I am an existing Direct Debit payee, if I make an amendment to my subscription how can I pay for this?

You will need to pay for any amendments by card. These amendments will be saved in your profile and will be incorporated into your Direct Debit payment for next year's renewal.


My temporary Fellowship card is not printing correctly.

If your temporary Fellowship card is not printing correctly on one page, please make sure your page setup is set to portrait. In your internet browser, go to 'File', then 'Page Setup' and select portrait. You may also find that the barcode is not being displayed correctly, we are currently looking to resolve this problem.
