Policy-related meetings
Information on selected Geological Society meetings addressing public policy issues, or concerning areas of science with particular policy relevance, is being added to this section. These might be research meetings, or events aimed at a mixed or non-specialist audience.
The Society has been actively involved in the development of the Managing Radioactive Waste Safely programme over many years. In October 2008, we held an open meeting entitled 'The Geological Disposal of Radioactive Waste', which was aimed at an audience including those from a wide variety of scientific backgrounds, government departments, regulators, contractors, green NGOs and representatives of potential volunteer host communities. The entire event was filmed, and recordings of the talks and the accompanying powerpoint presentations can be viewed online.
A major research meeting, 'Nuclear Waste Management: Research Challenges for the Future' will be held jointly with the Mineralogical Society in September 2010.
